The ACC had a rough first week, but four of its teams still reside in the AP's Top 25.
In Week 1 action, ACC squads went just 4-6; that number includes losses by Duke and Virginia to FCS schools Richmond and William and Mary, as well as a loss by the conference's highest-ranked team in preseason, No. 7 Virginia Tech, to No. 5 Alabama in Atlanta.
Virginia Tech stayed in the rankings despite the loss, dropping to No. 14.
The other three ACC teams in the poll are Georgia Tech, North Carolina and new entry Miami. The Yellow Jackets, led by Heisman Trophy contender Jonathan Dwyer, sat at No. 15 before the year began and held onto that spot. UNC jumped two places to No. 19 after mauling The Citadel.
Miami beat then-No. 18 Florida State in a back-and-forth game last night to earn its No. 20 ranking. The Seminoles dropped out of the poll, but are among three ACC schools in the "also receiving votes" category—FSU, Clemson and Boston College.
Other conference teams fell flat on the opening weekend: Maryland got crushed by No. 10 California, Wake Forest lost at home to the Big 12's Baylor and N.C. State dropped a close game to South Carolina last Thursday night.
Florida remained the unquestioned top team in the nation. The Gators received 56 of 60 first-place votes.
