After reports that Andre Dawkins is expected to be cleared to play for Duke one year earlier than planned, The Chronicle caught up with Dawkins' father for his take on the situation.
Reports say that Dawkins is considering playing for Duke next year. What can you say on this?
All I can say right now is that we're looking into it. There's a possibility. He's completed his four years of high school, his grades are good, and his SAT is in good shape. So we're looking into it.
So is your son going to Hargrove Military Academy next year, as some have said?
We're looking into that as well. Right now we're working on winning a national tournament- he's in the AAU nationals right now.
Do you think that he's academically and athletically ready for Duke?
Academically, I think he's ready. His grades are good [a 3.2 GPA, according to reports]. Athletically he probably is, but it would be a challenge. It's the ACC, you know, so it would be a big challenge.
