Greg Paulus hasn't played competitive football since 2004, but that didn't stop the Green Bay Packers from seeing if the Duke point guard still has some of the talent that earned him an offer to play for Notre Dame.
Paulus worked out for the Packers in Durham last Thursday in preparation for the upcoming NFL Draft, Sports Information Director Art Chase said Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound quarterback threw to Duke wide receiver Eron Riley in front of Green Bay representatives.
Paulus has a fifth year of NCAA eligibility to play another sport, but he will not use his extra year to play football at Duke, Chase said.
FOX Sports reported late Tuesday night that Paulus was in Ann Arbor, Mich. Tuesday to discuss playing for the University of Michigan with head coach Rich Rodriguez. "A half-dozen NFL teams and several other college programs" have also expressed interest in Paulus, FOX Sports reported.
In high school, Paulus was a four-time all state player and set six New York passing records. The four-star football recruit averaged more than three touchdown passes per game and racked up nearly 12,000 career passing yards while losing only three games in his career.
He became just the second Gatorade High School Player of the Year to not play football in college-the Minnesota Twins' Joe Mauer is the other-when Paulus spurned traditional football powerhouses to play point guard at Duke, where he was a three-year starter before seeing his minutes decline in his senior year.
