After playing nine straight road matches-a streak that dates back to Feb. 28-the No. 9 Blue Devils returned home with style this weekend, sweeping Virginia Saturday and beating Virginia Tech 6-1 Sunday at Ambler Stadium.
With the victories, the Blue Devils (17-3, 7-1 in the ACC) improved to 9-0 at home.
"It feels incredible," junior Amanda Granson said of returning home for the first time in more than a month. "It's so much different playing at home, because we have all of our friends coming out and you can feel the crowd really getting into it."
Duke used the home court to its advantage, as the team dropped just four sets and one match all weekend. Freshman Mallory Cecil was particularly impressive at first singles, losing just three games in two matches, while Reka Zsilinszka, at third singles, won 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) Saturday before securing a 6-1, 6-0 win Sunday.
The Blue Devils remain one win behind Miami for first place in the ACC.
