We endorse Awa Nur for Duke Student Government president. Her vision of a global Duke is appealing, as is her emphasis on the importance of cultural groups on campus. We were impressed by her insistence on accountability within DSG and other student groups, as well as her practical understanding of the relationship between DSG and the student body at large. We believe Nur will be an outstanding ambassador for our university. We do, however, appreciate candidate Chelsea Goldstein's lobbying for the Duke South Asian Studies Initiative during her tenure as vice president of academic affairs.
Cynthia Chen is our recommendation for vice president of academic affairs because of her strong understanding and support of the South Asian Studies Initiative (in endorsing this candidate, members with personal ties recused themselves from the discussion). We endorse Kevin Mulhern for vice president of student affairs because we were impressed by his knowledge, enthusiasm and emphasis on reforming, revitalizing and promoting inter-group collaborative events. We found Pete Schork to be in tune to the average student's needs, and liked how he aims to tackle large issues with practical solutions; we endorse him for vice president of athletics and campus services. Finally, we believe that Will Passo will be an excellent ambassador as vice president of Durham and regional affairs; he is dedicated to promoting Duke's image and has a good understanding of Duke-Durham relations.
