Thank God It's Not February.

We don't know about you, but we never really liked the calendar's second-born. We agree with that affable 17th-century philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, when he described February perfectly as "nasty, brutish and short."

But there's a saving grace to February. It leads to March.

Ahh, March.

March at Duke is more than just the thrills (and spills) of March Madness, it's a time of limitless possibility, of reaching for the freshly blue skies, of getting in touch with your environment.

Yea, March at Duke is Spring Break.

But as you cruise, jet, train or dare we say drive off to your week-long bacchanalian destination, you're going to need some reading material (except if you cruise... the mode of transportation is kind of key to that trip).

And if we're not suitable plane reading, we're nothing.

Our own Shreya Rao was thinking about trips herself with a pair of Durham cab drivers who made the journey from Kenya to the Bull City. On the way, Rao discovered-yet again-that there's a lot of distance between perception and reality.

Afraid you're going to lose contact with your closest friends-and Shaquille O'Neal-over the break, but you only have enough time for brief, 140-character updates? That's why God made Twitter. recess Film Editor Andrew Hibbard experiments with the newest form of online communication and reaches mixed conclusions.

If funds are your concern (and it clearly isn't for your editors... see below), recess Literature Editor Kevin Lincoln investigates the students who earn up to $3,000 with a Benenson art grant to see if it's money well-spent. He also spent a week getting the Benjamins with some "hard work" and less artistic creativity (if that's what you lack).

And what would spring be without America's pastime? Tim Britton takes an inside look at how the Blue Devil baseball program has recovered from the scars of steroid allegations to reach for new heights under a former Duke star.

Before we close the book on winter and the issue, though, former Towerview editor Sarah Kwak reminds us just how special basketball in Cameron can be.

As for us, we're starting our own Spring Break tradition. Since we've already read the March issue, there's really no point for us to go on a trip. So, who's up for some Monopoly?

And oh yes, we make it rain,
