On Golden Pond Director Visits UNC

We're catching wind a little late on this one, but there's still some time left to see acclaimed filmmaker Mark Rydell before he heads out of town. UNC-Chapel Hill is presenting a retrospective of the On Golden Pond director's work at the Chelsea Theater in Chapel Hill this week. The retrospective began yesterday with screenings of his 1972 John Wayne picture The Cowboys and multiple Oscar-winner On Golden Pond from 1981. Rydell is visiting the UNC this week and is present at the screenings.

The retrospective continues tonight with a 7 p.m. screening of his 1972 picture Cinderella Liberty with James Caan and, at 9 p.m. the 1979 picture The Rose, starring Bette Midler. The event ends Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. screening of his 2001 Emmy-winning biopic James Dean, starring a then-less-famous James Franco.

All of the films are free and if you have the time, you should not miss the legendary director's visit to Chapel Hill. For more information, read the press release here.
