Duke recovered quickly from its tough series loss to Miami last weekend and cruised in a doubleheader against Maryland-Eastern Shore Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (12-6) eased past the Hawks (2-17) 12-4 in the early game behind a strong day at the plate from first baseman Nate Freiman. They then returned to Jack Coombs Field in the early evening and won again, this time a 5-2 victory paced by starting pitcher Jonathan Foreman.
In the early game, Freiman went 3-for-5 with two home runs to lead Duke to the non-conference win. His solo homer in the fifth inning gave his team the lead, and his repeat performance in the eight-this time a three-run bomb-put the contest out of reach.
In the late game, Duke's bats weren't able to give the pitching staff a big lead, but Foreman's impressive showing made that a non-issue.
Foreman, a junior, started the game and went five innings. He allowed just one run and scattered three hits while striking out five hitters.
