No. 2 Duke took care of business as it opened its home schedule this weekend at Koskinen Stadium, notching wins against Richmond and William & Mary to start out the season 4-0.
Sunday's matchup against the Tribe started out poorly but finished well for the Blue Devils (4-0). William & Mary (1-1) built up a 6-3 lead by the 8:24 mark in the first half, but Duke ripped off six consecutive goals to draw ahead 9-6 by the close of the first period.
Junior Lindsey Gilbride keyed the scoring run with two goals, and finished the game with a hat trick. Freshman midfielder Kat Thomas was the game's high scorer with four goals.
On Friday, the Blue Devils cruised to a 14-9 win over Richmond (0-2), with senior Carolyn Davis notching a game-high six goals. The match went to halftime in a 2-2 deadlock, but a pair of goals by Gilbride to open the second period opened up a 12-goal scoring onslaught for Duke, with Davis chipping in four of her team's second half scores.
