Duke's players were on the bench, but the future of the program sat a few rows back during Sunday's 79-54 win over Virginia.
Two members of Duke's Class of 2009, Ryan Kelly and Mason Plumlee, and 2010 recruit Josh Hairston watched the Blue Devils dominate the Cavaliers in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The five-star recruits, both of whom live in North Carolina, sported green track jackets and seemed to watch intently.
Kelly and Plumlee have been spotted in Cameron earlier this season, but Plumlee, who makes the four-hour drive from Arden, N.C., must have been especially pleased with Sunday's game. His brother, Miles, played for eight minutes and scored four points on rim-shaking dunks. Hairston's trip from Spotsylvania, Va. is about the same distance from Plumlee's location at the Christ School.
Kelly, a Raleigh product, has less of a trek. For those interested in watching the forward play before he comes to Duke, Kelly's Ravenscroft School takes on highly-touted recruit John Wall's Word of God Christian Academy Wednesday in Raleigh. The good news? The 7 p.m. tip should get you home in time to catch Duke's 9 p.m. game at Clemson—unless, of course, you live in Arden.
