Duke Granted No. 3 Seed On Mock Selection Sunday

Selection Sunday is still weeks away, but that didn't stop the NCAA Tournament selection committee from holding its third annual mock bracket session two weeks ago in the spirit of transparency. The committee also traveled to Bristol, Conn. Saturday to perform the exercise again, this time in conjunction with ESPN staffers.

The mock bracket, which was decided before Duke's Sunday win over Wake Forest, placed the Blue Devils as the No. 3 seed in the Midwest regional. Duke would play VMI, the projected winner of the Big South, in the first round. If, theoretically, the Blue Devils advanced to the second round, they would play the winner of the Syracuse-South Carolina first-round game. No. 2 seed Memphis loomed at the bottom of the regional, with No. 1 Pittsburgh waiting up top.

The four No. 1 seeds, as decided jointly by the committee and ESPN, were Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Oklahoma and North Carolina, with Louisville, Memphis, Clemson and Wake Forest coming in as Nos. 2.

Of course, this bracket already seems completely obsolete, but it's still fun to speculate, right?
