Karima Christmas has a penchant for shoe-doodling.
Several pairs of her sneakers are covered with family members' initials, her jersey number and drawings of basketballs. But there are also some quotations that she's carried with her throughout her life that she has inscribed, too. Like this one from Eleanor Roosevelt: "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
She told me the story behind the inscription:
"I first heard it in a recruiting letter from [former Duke head] coach [Gail Goestenkors], believe it or not, after my 8th grade year. She had this quote in there and I really liked it. And it’s just stuck with me."
