- Duke rose to No. 1 in the nation by shellacking Maryland Saturday. But then the Blue Devils lost in their first game atop the polls. (And The Chronicle got some props in the process. If only this blog had noticed our Twitterati wrapup.)
- Joanne P. McCallie's team's week wasn't much better, either, as Duke blew a late lead and lost in overtime at Florida State Thursday night, slipping out of first place in the ACC. Perhaps the loss will instill some sense into the two national polls.
- Dukies in the Super Bowl! Maybe we should be there, too.
- N.C. State head coach Kay Yow died of cancer Saturday, prompting Duke to pay its respect on the court and in print. (And triggering one Chronicle cartoonist to pen this masterpiece.)
- David Cutcliffe may have put the finishing touches on his first full recruiting class in the form of three-star wide receiver Tyree Watkins.
That's all for this week, folks. Enjoy the weekend, and check back for basketball coverage along the way.
