Former Duke head coach Ted Roof is proving to be a popular commodity as a defensive coordinator.
Roof, who was fired in 2007 after four seasons at Duke, was hired by new Auburn head coach Gene Chizik as the Tigers' defensive coordinator. Roof spent one season at Minnesota and turned around the Gophers' defense, helping the squad reach the Insight Bowl. He was first hired as Louisville's linebackers coach before leaving for Minnesota.
"Our defense improved a great deal under Coach Roof this past season," Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said in a statement. "Good coaches are always going to be in demand and I wish Ted the best of luck in the future."
Roof was Duke's defensive coordinator before he became interim head coach and, after three games, head coach. He first served as defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, where he was an All-ACC linebacker.
He left Durham after posting a 6-45 record in his tenure as head coach.
