Duke 60-34, Final: More later as the Blue Devils win and could move up to No. 3 in the polls.
Duke 57-32, 2:35: The Blue Devils are in run out the clock mode, with McCallie placing every starter on the bench.
Duke 55-29, 5:24: Duke appears to have weathered the storm by doing what they've done all game, forcing the Yellow Jackets to turn the ball over. Most recently, Jasmine Thomas got a steal and made two free throws.
Duke 46-27, 8:09: The inexperienced Cameron Crazies attending this game just tried to start a "Crazy Towel Guy" chant while play was going on. Crazy Towel Guy ignored them, but stood and cheered extra loudly when Black made a lay in down low.
Duke 44-27, 8:25: And all of a sudden the Yellow Jackets have life. Montgomery has scored 8 straight points and Georgia Tech has closed the gap to 17. Duke's turnovers are starting to catch up with them.
Duke 44-19, 9:45: Georgia Tech gets their first points in roughly four minutes after Krystal Thomas deflects a pass right to a wide open Sasha Goodlett who hit a free throw line jumper. It's been that kind of game for Tech.
Duke 42-17, 11:30: Waner hits a three, giving her a team high 12. Duke is starting to run away with this one.
Duke 39-17, 13:24: After continued sloppy play from both teams, Duke gets a wide open 3-pointer from Jasmine Thomas and then two free throws from Karima Christmas to open up its largest lead of the game.
Duke 32-13, 17:34 2nd: Black just had to leave the game because of a nose bleed. Georgia Tech has finally gotten on the board in the second half, but committed one more turnover and picked up a technical foul (on Montgomery) as I wrote this.
Duke 30-13, 19:35 2nd: The game picks up right where it left off with two Georgia Tech missed shots and a Duke turnover.
Duke 30-13, Halftime: Duke held Georgia Tech to just 18.2 percent shooting in the first half, which is the lowest Duke has allowed in the first half this season. Incidentally, Duke had its highest field goal percentage this season with 56.5 percent. The problem for the Blue Devils, however, is that they committed 13 turnovers. Of course, if their defense keeps playing like it has, those turnovers won't matter. Duke has had very balanced scoring thus far. Waner right now has a team-high of seven.
Duke 30-11, 25.5 1st: Jasmine Thomas has taken it upon herself to get Duke out of its offensive funk. She just hit a 3-pointer and followed it up with a steal and dish to Keturah Jackson for a lay-up.
Duke 25-11, 2:12 1st: Georgia Tech's offensive struggles have continued, but Duke has had some recent problems of their own, most recently a Krystal Thomas offensive foul, which is why this is still a 14-point game.
Duke 25-11, 4:47 1st: This game has become incredibly sloppy with both teams exchanging turnovers. Waner finally ends the drought with a put back lay-in.
Duke 21-9, 7:20 1st: Black returns and immediately gets an easy lay up in the post. Waner then steals a pass which leads to two free throws for Keturah Jackson, but she misses both.
Duke 19-9, 7:42 1st: Duke is breaking Georgia Tech's press with ease and getting many easy lay-ups and jumpers. When Abby Waner returns to the floor Duke switches its defense back to man-to-man. Waner is currently Duke's leading scorer with five points. Still no sign of Black.
Duke 19-7, 8:35 1st: Georgia Tech has switched to a 2-3 zone and immediately forces a Duke turnover. Duke follows suit and switches to a 3-2 zone and continues to contest every Georgia Tech shot.
Duke 13-3, 13:22 1st: Staunch defense by Duke has led to multiple Georgia Tech turnovers. Tech coach MaChelle Joseph has put Montgomery back in the game with her two fouls. No word yet on whether Duke Coach Joanne P. McCallie will sit Black for the rest of the first half like she did against N.C. State.
Duke 2-1, 17:31 1st: The two leading scorers for both teams, Chante Black and Alex Montgomery for Duke and Georgia Tech respectively, are both sitting on the bench after recording two early fouls.
Pregame: Relatively large crowd on hand. About half of the student section is standing to begin the game, which is better than usual. Every player is wearing pink shoelaces in honor of Kay Yow, the legendary NC. State women's basketball coach who passed away yesterday.
