Welcome back to the top.
Duke moved into the No. 1 position in both polls today for the first time since the end of 2006, taking 62 of 72 votes in the AP rankings and 30 of 31 in the ESPN/USA Today ballots. The Blue Devils have occupied the top spot the most of any school since 1997, and have been No. 1 now for 111 weeks in school history.
"It's an honor and it says that you're playing really well," head coach Mike Krzyzewski said of the top spot after Duke's win over Maryland. "But you don't get anything from it except a really big headline when you lose."
Connecticut and Pittsburgh are Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, in both polls, while North Carolina remained No. 5 and Wake Forest tumbled from No. 1 down to No. 6. Fellow ACC team Clemson dropped down to No. 12.
