Georgetown Beats Up On Syracuse Before Coming To Cameron

Georgetown looked better than its ranking indicated Wednesday night.

The No. 13 Hoyas raced out to an 18-point halftime lead and throttled No. 8 Syracuse 88-74 in the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., giving John Thompson III's team a tailwind of momentum heading into its Saturday game at No. 3 Duke.

In the win, the Hoyas showed that they can win when prized freshman center Greg Monroe doesn't play particularly well. Monroe contributed 10 points and seven rebounds—he averages 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game—but DaJuan Summers and Austin Freeman more than made up for Monroe's down night, combining for 40 points. Expect Monroe to hear plenty of jeers in Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday.

The Cameron Crazies haven't forgotten that Monroe, one of the top recruits in the country last year, chose Georgetown over Duke. He could be playing in Cameron more than once every two years.
