The study abroad program Duke in Israel has been cancelled for the summer because of a number of factors, according to program directors and the Office of Study Abroad. In an e-mail yesterday to students who had shown interest in the program, the Office of Study Abroad cites security as the sole reason for the cancellation, writing:
We made this difficult decision in light of the recent hostilities in Gaza, and our concern for student safety.
In the same e-mail, program directors, however, cite a number of factors in addition to security, but say they expect the program to be back next summer with changes to academics and costs.
