Another upset no one saw coming, at least not before yesterday: Duke has jumped over North Carolina in the polls.
After opening ACC play with a win Sunday, the Blue Devils moved up three spots to No. 2 in the country, trailing only Pittsburgh, the nation's new No. 1. North Carolina, a unanimous selection at the top of the rankings last week, slipped to No. 3 after its stunning loss to then-unranked Boston College, which shot up to No. 17 this week.
Undefeated Wake Forest moved to No. 4 in the country after breaking BYU's home winning streak, the longest in the country, giving the ACC three of the top four teams in the land. Unbeaten Clemson climbed to No. 12, while future Duke foe Georgetown creeped into the top 10 at No. 9.
The No. 2 ranking for Duke is its highest since last February, when it beat North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Two weeks after they ascended to No. 2, the Blue Devils lost twice and dropped to No. 5. Duke plays Davidson, a previous top-25 team now in the others receiving votes category, Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
