A team from the Tar Heel state rose to No. 1 in the rankings Monday, but it wasn't North Carolina or Duke. Wake Forest, the only undefeated team in the country, assumed the top spot. Many are already looking forward to a potential matchup between the two best teams in the country when the Blue Devils travel to Winston-Salem Jan. 28.
But before Duke (16-1, 3-0 in the ACC) gets there, it has to get through a gauntlet of a week, which begins Tuesday at 8 p.m. against N.C. State (10-5, 1-2) in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Wolfpack just snapped a three-game losing slide with a 76-71 win over Georgia Tech Saturday, the same day Duke picked up a win over then-No. 13 Georgetown.
Last year against the Blue Devils in Cameron, N.C. State raced out to a nine-point halftime lead before Duke recovered and outscored the visitors 55-26 in the second half to pick up a seemingly easy 92-72 victory.
Duke's road leading to a contest at Wake Forest continues Saturday against Maryland.
