Less than two weeks before National Signing Day, head coach David Cutcliffe has added another commitment to his first full recruiting class.
Three-star wide receiver Tyree Watkins reneged on a verbal commitment to Virginia Monday and instead pledged his allegiance to Cutcliffe's Blue Devils, becoming the 27th member of the class. According to Scout.com, Watkins is the 10th three-star recruit committed to Duke, the Blue Devils' highest number of three-stars in Scout.com's history. Running back Desmond Scott is the sole four-star.
Watkins, a Camden, N.J. product, is Scout.com's No. 100 wideout in the Class of 2009. The 6-foot receiver also had offers from Rutgers and Stanford and de-committed from Virginia after the firing of offensive coordinator Mike Groh, who recruited Watkins to Charlottesville. Kyle Griswould is another three-star receiver in Cutcliffe's class.
