Duke doesn't have any type of sports business major or a business school for undergraduates, but that didn't stop two alumni from being named to Sports Business Journal's list of the 50 most influential people in sports business, released Monday.
CBS Sports President Sean McManus, Trinity '77, clocked in at No. 8, while NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, Trinity '84, moved up seven spots to No. 24.
McManus, who doubles as CBS News president, jumped one spot for his efforts to orchestrate the network's election coverage and his negotiations to keep the SEC on CBS for the next 15 years. McManus moved "Inside the NFL," the popular HBO show, to CBS, and helped the network add its college sports station to five million more houses.
Silver is widely believed to be David Stern's successor as NBA commissioner, but now, does most of his work out of the spotlight. He has been especially crucial in the NBA's treading into international waters.
