He wasn't the leading vote-getter at linebacker in the ACC, he didn't win the league's Defensive Player of the Year Award and another linebacker from his conference won the Butkus Award, but, somehow, Duke linebacker Michael Tauiliili was the ACC's lone linebacker representative on the Walter Camp Foundation's All-American team, released Thursday.
Tauiliili was one of six linebackers honored by the organization. USC's Rey Maualuga, Ohio State's James Laurinaitis and Florida's Brandon Spikes made the first team, while Pittsburgh's Scott McKillop and Missouri's Sean Witherspoon made the second team. Boston College's Mark Herzlich, the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, was nowhere to be found, nor was Wake Forest's Aaron Curry, the Butkus Award winner.
Tauiliili is the first Duke player to be named an All-American of any sort since 2000. He is the first Duke linebacker to earn the award since 1986.
