Cutcliffe Earns Extension Through 2015

Duke head coach David Cutcliffe won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

After winning more games in his first season than Duke had in the previous three years combined, Cutcliffe inked a two-year contract extension that will keep him in Durham through 2015, Director of Athletics Kevin White announced in a statement Sunday.

Cutcliffe, who was hired Dec. 20, 2007, led Duke to a 4-8 record in his maiden year, which equaled the total amount of wins from the previous four seasons combined.

The Blue Devils' win total wasn't the only number Cutcliffe helped enhance: Attendance numbers shot up by 60 percent, Wallace Wade Stadium hosted four crowds of more than 30,000 for the first time in school history and the average attendance mark was the highest since 1994, the last time Duke went to a bowl.

"David Cutcliffe is a great coach, a great teacher and a great citizen of the University and the community," President Richard Brodhead said. "He and his team have restored confidence and excitement in Duke football, and I look forward to his leadership on the field for a long time to come."

Duke will not release contract specifics, and when asked last year, Cutcliffe declined to comment on the details of his deal.
