POSTGAME THOUGHTS
- Singler and freshman Elliot Williams led the Blue Devils in scoring with 15 points each. Henderson and Plumlee finished with 14.
- From the 6:20 mark, Williams took over offensively for Duke, hitting two straight threes to put the team ahead 95-38. Williams also had a huge dunk at the 4-minute mark.
- The Blue Devils had a hard time connecting on alley-oop plays, missing two in the first and one in the second. Near the end of the game, McClure found freshman Olek Czyz for his first field goal.
- Although Virginia Union had a tough time hitting any shots all game, the Blue Devils locked down defensively with 10 blocks and 12 steals.
- In the press conference, Krzyzewski mentioned Plumlee working well with the key three players, Scheyer, Henderson and Singler. Makes you wonder about Paulus' place in the starting lineup.
- Junior center Brian Zoubek fouled out with 4:27 left in the game.
DUKE 48, VIRGINIA UNION 17 (HALFTIME)
- The starting lineup consisted of Gerald Henderson, Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith, Miles Plumlee and Jon Scheyer. Doesn't look like the permanent lineup for the year.
- Greg Paulus didn't start, as you might have noticed, but came into the game at the 14:15 mark.
- The team struggled to find an offensive rhythm for much of the first half. It wasn't until 15 minutes in until the Blue Devils finally started hitting shots from outside, especially Paulus and Scheyer, who combined for five 3-pointers.
- Plumlee had one of the strongest showings in the half, with four points, three rebounds, two blocks and a steal in nine minutes.
-
Mike Kryzyzewski put in nearly every combination imaginable, including one with Scheyer running the point and Smith and Paulus on the bench. It doesn't seem like a good idea for the season though, with the lineup struggling to score points. Then again, that's what the exhibition season is for.
