Duke Student Government would like to remind students to have a safe, fun Halloween. We also want to encourage students to take advantage of the events happening on campus, rather than traveling over to Chapel Hill. If you're looking for something to do, Campus Council and Duke University Union are hosting Devil's Eve on Main West starting at 8 p.m. There will be free food, beer, music and prizes for the best costumes.
Inevitably, though, some students will decide to go over to Chapel Hill for the annual party on Franklin St. Before you make this decision, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, realize that there will not be a Duke-sponsored bus running to Chapel Hill. The last public transportation leaving for Chapel Hill will be the Robertson Bus at 5 p.m. Second, you should keep in mind the new policies that the town of Chapel Hill has put in place. These new policies include shutting down the roads around Franklin St. starting at 8 p.m., limiting traffic into Chapel Hill starting at 8 p.m. and shutting the celebration down at midnight. Unless you want to sit in traffic and walk a long way, plan to take a cab and head over early.
To those of you who are disappointed by these new policies, I apologize. I can assure you that DSG will work with the Town of Chapel Hill and the UNC Student Government to make sure that Duke students are included in next year's celebration. In the meantime, I hope we can all take this as an opportunity to prove that we can have a good time right here at Duke.
