Senior Re'quan Boyette will have another year with that class designation.
The running back will miss the remainder of Duke's season after he underwent knee surgery Aug. 9, head coach David Cutcliffe announced Wednesday. On Oct. 21, Cutcliffe said Boyette would likely be redshirted, and he finally made the official announcement today. Boyette has one season of eligibility remaining.
"While we are disappointed that Re'quan will not get on the field this season, we're excited about him returning in 2009," Cutcliffe said in a statement. "We are not going to play a young man if he is not ready, and with five games to play, Re'quan is not to the point where he could contribute."
Boyette, a captain, led Duke in rushing in his sophomore and junior campaigns and seemed poised for a breakout season after a productive spring practice under Cutcliffe. His production has been replaced by the three-headed rushing attack of Clifford Harris, Jay Hollingsworth and Tony Jackson. Harris graduates this year, but highly touted recruit Desmond Scott will also contend for the job next year.
