It's become somewhat of a tradition for The Chronicle to run a piece breaking down Navy's triple-option offense in the week leading up to the Blue Devils' yearly matchup with the Midshipmen. This year proved no different, but it did have relevance: after former head coach Paul Johnson departed to Georgia Tech, Navy hired current head man Ken Niumatalolo to help ensure its unique offense would be kept intact.
When Navy beat Duke 46-43 last year in Annapolis, Md., though, the Midshipmen attacked through the air by surprising the Blue Devils with 21 passes for 236 yards—both were season highs.
