Potential basketball spectators littered the lawns with beer and food this weekend-not in legendary Krzyzewskiville, but in a practice soccer field off of Science Drive.
From 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday, approximately 1,600 graduate and professional students slept in tents and RVs during the annual Graduate and Professional Student Council campout for the opportunity to buy men's basketball season tickets.
The students tented to be entered in a lottery to distribute the 700 seats allocated for graduate and professional students, said Mickey Tekippe, co-chair of the GPSC Men's Basketball Committee and a student in the School of Medicine.
Yet Campout holds a social purpose as well, he said.
"We are looking to foster community amongst the graduate students and of different schools at Duke," Tekippe said.
Students from all seven of Duke's graduate schools participated in the campout.
Among the most memorable moments this weekend was an appearance by Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski and players from the men's and women's basketball teams, Tekippe said. Juniors Brian Zoubek and Lance Thomas of the men's team joined some students in a Guitar Hero tournament.
