A letter to RLHS

We are less than enthralled with your selection of Gilbert-Addoms Down Under for Room Pix '08. Although it is an adequate venue, we believe it violates the three main rules of real estate: location, location, location. GA Down Under, for those of you who may not know, is located below Gilbert-Addoms, in the backyard of East Campus. Though East Campus, with its soaring Georgian architecture, is quite lovely, it is distinctly not West Campus.

Why is this an issue? Well, the vast majority of people who live on East Campus are freshmen, who, by your system, will not participate in the in-person selection process. Therefore, the percentage of people who live close to GA Down Under who must choose rooms in person is approximately the number of students who successfully used the online selection last year-zero. This is cause for concern. As independent sophomores about to be forcibly relocated to Central Campus, we feel that a consolation is in order.

We can, however, see a few reasons why you may feel justified in making us schlep to East this March. First, this allows West Campus residents another excuse to eat at the Marketplace. Second, the C-1 is very comfortable, and riding in it will provide much-needed practice for all the C-2s we will now have to take next year. Third, GA Down Under is an RLHS space, and it would prove costly to hold the in-person selection elsewhere. This is understandable, given that the cost to manufacture all those blue rubber ducks has sucked funding dry. If there were any modicum of funding available, permit us to suggest a few locations that would better benefit the 100 percent of students affected:

Sheafer, Griffith, Reynolds, the Mary Lou Williams Center, Von Canon, Soc/Psych 130, BioSci 111, the Plaza, Tommy's, Kilgo I 301 and the Duke Forest.

If you have any questions, we would be happy to meet with you. How's Cape Canaveral next Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.?
