It's true that Duke students are always winning things, but here's an award that Duke should definitely be proud of. Cosmopolitan Magazine named senior Scott Champagne Delaware's hottest bachelor of the year. The issue hit the stands Oct. 16, and if what RM has heard is true, Scotty the Hottie has his own shirtless spread-and if he won the readers' vote, he had the chance to be named the Bachelor of the Year, a distinction complete with a cash prize and a bachelor pad makeover (as of press time, the vote was still out). Champagne refused to talk before the magazine came out, but his Facebook fans played the part of Gossip Girl quite nicely, spreading the word within a matter of hours. (Speaking of Cosmo, the pond in the Duke Gardens was named among a list of "25 Secret Sexy Places" in the September issue. Does Cosmo have a Duke fetish? Or a Duke intern?)
And in other news of Duke students in reputable publications, The New York Times Magazine flew writers down to campus in September to wine and dine at Z Kitchen, the gourmet eatery senior Bryan Zupon runs out of his Central Campus apartment. As a result, Zupon, food editor for Recess, was featured in the magazine earlier this month. The article included a photo spread of the chef at work on his "hypermodern cuisine," which could put the Food Network to shame. NYT writers seem to have tracked down Zupon after reading a feature about him in Duke Magazine last semester, and the recent article lauds his reputation on the East Coast and his presence in epicurean Internet forums. But Zupon modestly told RM: "Think of me as like a fledgling Internet personality, a bootleg, less popular Perez Hilton of the food world."
Rick'S had the Tyler sandwich, Pauly occasionally names his hotdogs after students, and now RM has caught wind of the drink menu at Another thyme, where drinks are named after Duke students on a regular basis. At the "Kaz bar," senior Josh Kazdin designs drinks based on students' preferences and personalities. Wonder if even after Kazdin graduates, current senior Rob sheridan will be still able to go back to the bar and order the robbie (sloe gin, SoCo, vodka, orange juice and cranberry highball)?
