Billionaire David Murdock announced today that he will pledge $35 million to Duke University to fund a biomedical research project.
The new study, named M.U.R.D.O.C.K.—for the Measurement to Understand the Reclassification of Disease of Cabarrus and Kannapolis—will study how genes are linked to disease risks and health outcomes.
Research by Duke scientists will be conducted at Murdock's newly
constructed North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, N.C.
Murdock, an outspoken proponent of disease prevention, is the owner of Dole Food Company Inc. and Castle and Cooke Inc.
