Face it: 2006-2007 was nowhere near as exciting as 2005-2006.
A year ago we had a lacrosse scandal, two men's basketball All-Americans and the opening of an ambitious art museum right on campus. There was no way this year could ever compete with that. But that's not to say nothing happened. We watched the jersey retirements of those two All-Americans, and the triumphant return of the lacrosse team. We were captivated by the women's basketball team's undefeated regular season. We ate lunch and hung out on the brand-new student plaza and partied in the library, the gardens and the art museum. We received huge financial gifts that promise to improve student life and make Duke a better place. And three of our peers were vindicated and set free. The nine Dukies that appear here are the ones that made news in the past 12 months-a baskeball star, a philanthropist, a unifying professor, a couple of party-planners, Mr. Plaza himself, and the trio of formerly accused lacrosse players.
