It seemed to be an impossible task. How could Towerview hope to describe "The Black Experience at Duke"--or the experience of any group, really--in mere words? How could a writer, or a group of writers, distill the experiences of a large, diverse group of people iinto one coherent narrative?
What follows, then is an attempt to tell the stories of 10 individuals in the here and now. Nine writers profiled ten black members of Duke's intellectual community--undergrads, grad students and professors. But a suffieient effort also requires a look at the past.
Is there one "Black Experience" at Duke? BSA President Malik Burnett gets the last word, but you make the final call.
