Mazumdar a compassionate scholar

I was pleased to see that Tang Zihui's troubling case has finally been laid to rest. Especially disturbing were the outrageous claims made by her against Professor Sucheta Mazumdar of sexism and racism, which many Duke students seem to have believed.

As an East Asian Studies graduate student at Duke, I've worked closely with Professor Mazumdar for a year and a half, and I have never encountered anything close to the abusive criticisms that Tang has alleged. Professor Mazumdar is a dedicated and compassionate scholar, and an excellent teacher. I sincerely hope that thirteen years of exceptional work at Duke will not be overcome by badmouthing from one upset student.
