Found object exhibit opens
Mikel Robinson combines turn-of-the-century photography with materials such as bits of cloth, wood panels and music sheets to create artwork that is unique in and of itself. Add angled lighting, and you have Chasing Shadows, his new exhibit. Robinson-a mixed media and digital artist-has made a name for himself in Charlotte with multiple exhibits over the past 10 years. For some food, wine and a little one-on-one with Robinson, check out the exhibit's opening event Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at West Village. If you can't make it then, the exhibit will run until October 19. As an exhibit that reconstitutes history in offbeat and moving ways, Chasing Shadows is definitely worth taking a trip off campus.
WXDU Record Sale
Duke Coffeehouse goes retro Saturday. The hipster hangout will transform into the largest record shop in town when it hosts the 1st Annual WXDU Giant Record Sale. With 16 tables of vinyl vendors from all over the state dealing LPs and 45s (and for those of you on the cutting edge, a few "compact discs"), it's a great excuse to peruse the East Campus haunt. The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
