We're thrilled that the temperature outside has finally veered toward chilly-and not only because we're dying to see what on earth those clever designers at UGG, who came up with the candy-colored confections of last winter, will be unleashing on their ever-loyal skirt-in-the-winter-wearing fan base.
We're thinking about the opposite end of the body, where we can preserve body heat while topping off our outfits. Hats, caps, beanies, whatever. They range from the themed (bowler, cowboy, and derby) to the decorative (feathers and sequins entirely optional) to functional (a snug wool or cotton knit). Our favorite creative cap, however, is Ralph Lauren's black cashmere beret (see picture, left). The beret exudes a comfortable, casual, effortless sophistication, but with a decidedly playful streak.
And if you do love the idea, it's not a hard look to imitate at almost any price range. Cashmere can be sacrificed for fine wools or cotton, and black never fails to look luxurious. We're predicting this accessory's rise as a must-have item for fall for those obsessed with the characteristic slouchy glamour of the season's prettiest looks.
