The Duke women's basketball team received its third commitment for the
class of 2008 on Tuesday, as high school senior Wanisha Smith announced
her decision to play for the Blue Devils.
Smith, a 5-foot-11 guard from Washington, D.C., averaged 21.5 points,
4.5 rebounds and four assists last year as a junior at Riverdale
Baptist High School. Her extensive high school resume includes the
adidas Top Ten Camp, the Nike All-America Camp and USA Basketball's
Youth Development Festival.
The consensus top-15 prospect will share point guard duties with
current sophomore Lindsey Harding and help to fill the void when three-
year starter Vicki Krapohl graduates in 2004.
Smith, who grew up playing basketball in Ohio with Blue Devil freshman
Brittany Hunter, chose Duke over Maryland, Florida and Notre Dame.
