After easily defeating the Premier Players last Tuesday, the women's basketball team will play its final exhibition game of the season this weekend, as it hosts Everyone's Internet All-Stars Sunday at 1 p.m in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
EV1, which is coached by Kevin Cook of the Houston Comets, will be playing its fourth game against a collegiate opponent in five days. The team boasts a roster of 12 former college and two current WNBA players, including Sacramento forward DeMya Walker. Walker, a former standout at the University of Virginia, averaged nine points and 4.4 rebounds per game last year in helping the Monarchs reach the Western Conference finals.
Another key contributor for EV1 is former Texas Tech forward Alicia Thompson, who was ranks second on her school's all-time scoring list with 2,156 points. Thompson led EV1 with 15 points in its Nov. 6th win over the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
However, the EV1 squad that fell 60-49 on Nov. 5th to the Houston Cougars will face a stiff challenge against second-ranked Duke. The Blue Devils--led by a combined 47 points from Preseason Naismith Player of the Year candidates Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis--won their first preseason game 118-56, and they will be looking to tune up for their regular-season opener at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic next Sunday against No. 3 Texas.
Duke will start seniors Beard and Tillis at guard and forward, respectively, as well as redshirt sophomore Monique Currie at guard and senior Vicki Krapohl at point guard.
Sophomore Mistie Bass, who started Tuesday's game at center against the Premier Players, will be sidelined with a thumb injury, which should give 6-foot-3 freshman sensation Brittany Hunter her first start in a Blue Devil uniform.
Hunter's fellow freshman teammate, 6-foot-7 Alison Bales, will miss her second straight game with an injured knee, and her return for the season opener is questionable.
