Administrators holding responses to minority demands

Administrators declined comment or were unavailable for comment Tuesday after a list of demands relating to minority issues appeared in The Chronicle. Provost Peter Lange said he may be able to comment after the organizing group formally presents the list to administrators--including President Nan Keohane--Wednesday morning.

The list of 12 demands, drafted by concerned students, faculty, staff and administrators, was distributed at an open forum Monday. The demands emerged after weeks of debate regarding Sigma Chi fraternity's "Viva Mexico" party and subsequent discussions about the campus atmosphere for minorities.

The demands range from the formation of Native American and Asian American studies programs to the creation of a student task force to ensure that potentially racially charged, offensive or stereotypical themed events do not occur.

Fuqua among 25 best business schools for Latinos

Hispanic Trends magazine recently ranked the Fuqua School of Business on its list of the top schools for Latino MBA candidates. In its Summer 2003 issue, the magazine listed 25 business schools based on such criteria as job placement rates upon graduation; efforts to recruit minority candidates; the support offered Latino students in terms of scholarships, fellowships, mentoring and student associations; and programs that bilingual or bicultural MBA candidates "would be particularly successful or interested in."

Hispanic Trends noted that 95 percent of Fuqua graduates in 2002 received offers prior to or within three months of graduation. The magazine also noted the offerings of both full-time and executive MBA programs and a number of outreach programs, including a partnership with the Toigo Foundation and Management Leadership for Tomorrow and a Center for International Business Education and Research.
