While it is admirable that Duke has a potential candidate for a Nobel Prize who has made significant contributions in the field of medical research, I find your characterization that he began his career in research only to avoid being drafted to Vietnam less than admirable.
The approximately 58,000 soldiers who died in Vietnam had dreams also. Given the chance, how many of them would have achieved great success in their lifetime?
It is important that we do not demean their ultimate sacrifice for those who stayed behind in the States.
