Special council meeting will not be rescheduled
The Arts and Sciences Council and Engineering Faculty Council will vote on a new short-term illness policy at the Arts and Sciences Council's regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 9, instead of rescheduling the special session that was canceled due to Hurricane Isabel.
Chick-fil-A wins Teamwork Award
Chick-fil-A has won this year's Teamwork Award from Dining Services. The restaurant, which is managed by ARAMARK Corp., closed early Monday afternoon to celebrate the award at a banquet.
Bishop Gregory Palmer to deliver Taylor lecture
Bishop Gregory Vaughn Palmer, bishop of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church, has been selected as the featured speaker Oct. 7 and 8 at the Divinity School's annual Gardner C. Taylor Lectures. Palmer will deliver the Taylor lecture at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the York Chapel and will preach that evening at a 7 p.m. worship service at Asbury Temple and again at 10 a.m. Oct. 8 in York Chapel.
Palmer graduated from the Divinity School in 1979 and is a former pastor of Asbury Temple United Methodist Church in Durham. He was appointed bishop in 2000.
The Taylor lectures are sponsored by the Office of Black Church Studies and the Black Seminarians Union and feature the nation's preeminent African-American preachers. The lecture and worship services are free and open to the public.
