We just wanted to correct some factual errors in Tuesday's editorial. Next year, student groups will have access to $50,000 in programming funds from SOFC in addition to the $35,000 available from Campus Council.
The Chronicle described SOFC as "inefficient" and having "sporadic" meetings. A This year, SOFC met weekly, and its decisions were immediately sent to Duke Student Government. Student groups frequently experienced a lag time in receiving funds due to DSG's occasionally inconsistent schedule. Additionally, SOFC was able to immediately approve and process funding requests of under $500. Only proposals asking for additional funding necessitated legislative approval.
Next year, Campus Council and SOFC will work in conjunction with one another to ensure that student groups receive adequate funding to provide quality programming for the student body. Both groups have equally high standards for fund requests, and will not allow excellent programs to "fall through the cracks."
