Thank God for The Chronicle! In its editorial "Self-righteous covenant" it absolutely proved that what the Divinity School is attempting to do with its conduct covenant is not understood nor appreciated by the secular world and thus right on target. Without much of the facts - and blowing out of proportion the amount of dissent within the school - the editorial misses the point of Christian community and the interrelationship between Christian teachings and Christian ethics. The fact that the Divinity School wants to enable a community built on Christian principles and accountability is anathema to the secular world and rightly so. Christianity is not out there to make "sense."
Nor is it called to bow to the gods of political correctness. The Divinity School, as an institution that trains women and men for Christian ministry should be a place that not only talks "Christian," but that actually acts "Christian." The fact that The Chronicle does not get this is wonderful.
