As the most quoted person in the Feb. 18 article "Bridging the Gap," I deemed it necessary to defend my work ethic as well as my relationship with the Duke community.
While some of the statements written were actual, there was a plethora of paraphrasing within. One sentence that comes to mind is Alston comes to Duke, not to work but, to party with the students. The reply I gave was I have no problem with the students. I know some by name and they know mine. I have actually partied with them so I have a pretty good relationship with the students.
After the article was printed, I received feedback that, in turn, inspired and encouraged me to express my objections. Whether or not the agenda was to alert the Duke community that there is a lack of communication between students and employees, the article could have made the situations worse.
In my opinion, The Chronicle should have offered resolution to the gap instead of just stating the problem.
