Inclement weather might have put a damper on the women's tennis team's trip to Florida State, but it only delayed the inevitable.
Buoyed by overwhelming performances from most of its doubles teams and singles competitors, the fourth-ranked Blue Devils (16-3, 3-0 in the ACC) easily disposed of the Seminoles (10-12, 1-5) in a match that was rescheduled to Thursday afternoon after being rained out Wednesday.
The only deviations from Duke's dominance came at the No. 1 doubles position, where Kelly McCain and Hillary Adams lost a tough pro set to Florida State's Jessica Balbuena and Lauren Walker, and the No. 3 singles spot, where Julie DeRoo lost a three-set match that took over two hours to complete.
Neither of these losses, however, had an effect on the final, 6-1 outcome of the match--Duke won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches convincingly and pounded the Seminoles in straight sets in all five of the other singles matches.
Duke coach Jamie Ashworth was pleased with his team's performance, especially given the frustration he and his players felt after having their match postponed as they warmed up against Florida State Wednesday.
