After two years as a Duke Student Government legislator, Trinity sophomore Bianca Motley said that she can "pin-point a problem and work with students and the administration to find the solution."
As co-chair of the Duke University Student Dining Advisory Committee, she has put this ability into such activities as planning the renovation of Devil's Den and restructuring the Oak Room. Working with a combination of administrators and students, she said that the endeavors have proven successful.
Among her many goals, Motley said she would like to see a late-night eating facility opened on campus. She added that she feels that students' eating options are too limited once the University dining establishments close.
She said the current financial aid car policy needs to be re-evaluated along with the current housing lottery system. "The student body deserves nothing less than answers to important questions and concerns they have," she said.
"The office of Student Affairs requires someone who sees an issue and has the dedication and follow through to see a solution and put it into action," she said.
Among her other accomplishments, Motley has served for two years, including one as vice chair, on the Student Organizations Finance Committee. Her primary responsibility in that post was to plan the budgets for various student groups. From this experience she said that she hopes to publish a pamphlet for student organizations that would outline the different sources for funding available to them.
Motley said she feels that working on DSG requires someone who will work with students on an individual level. "I am a person who enjoys finding out what someone needs on a personal level, because that is where you get the best information and ideas from," she said.
Motley believes "experience, dedication and vision" are the three keys to the position of vice president for student affairs.
"I believe wholeheartedly that I contain all three qualities," she added.
