Overview: After a disappointing two-season stretch that saw the Yellow Jackets bring up the rear of the ACC, they’ve cleaned house ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. The program injected fresh blood into the staff in the form of new head coach Damon Stoudamire, relieving former head coach Josh Pastner after his seven-year stint as shot caller.
Stoudamire was quite active in the offseason, hoping to revamp the Georgia Tech roster with big name transfers while returning some key pieces. The Yellow Jackets bring back last year’s leading scorer Miles Kelly, whose 14.4 points per game were the axis of the Georgia Tech offense last year. The roster also includes a few big-name transfers such as N.C. State’s Ebenezer Dowuona and Amaree Abram from Ole Miss, both aiming to produce instant impact.
The roster is shaping up to be very different from last years, a testament to Stoudamire’s commitment to changing the perception of Yellow Jacket basketball. It’s clear that the coaching staff is trying to create a team with the potential to compete immediately, hoping to bounce back quickly and return the program to its winning ways. Whatever the result, you can be certain that we’ll be seeing a different Georgia Tech squad this year.
Team ceiling: The transfers come together smoothly and the team turns it around. It makes a case in the ACC tournament and makes it into March Madness.
Team floor: The team produces more of the same, the injection of new talent doesn’t pay off and the Yellow Jackets put forward another disappointing season.
