Since he arrived at Duke in August 2008, William Wright-Swadel, Fannie Mitchell executive director of career services,  has emphasized a four-year approach to the career advising experience.

Instead of students waiting until their senior year to make their first visit to the Career Center, this philosophy encourages students to carefully consider a variety of career options from the first day they set foot on East Campus.

With undergraduate admissions decisions set to roll out in the coming weeks, the tables have turned. Admissions offices across the country will now make their case to accepted students in hope of luring the best and the brightest to accept an offer for admission and enroll at their university.

Baseball weather has finally arrived, but fans looking to catch a game on campus at Duke’s Jack Coombs Field will be sorely disappointed.

This season, the Blue Devils will only play six games at Jack Coombs Field. The majority of the team’s “home” games will be hosted at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in downtown Durham and the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

In an August 2009 executive order, Duke Student Government President Awa Nur, a senior, implemented a change to the organization’s election calendar.

Under the new system, next year’s president and executive vice president will be elected March 30, and the selection of the future vice presidents will be coupled with regular Spring Senate elections April 15.

Students aren’t the only ones cutting classes this semester. According to Lee Baker, dean of academic affairs for Trinity College, approximately 25 students were affected by administrators’ cost-cutting decision to cancel 20 courses with low enrollment this year.

The recent decision by President Richard Brodhead to shave off his mustache is rash and disturbing. Our fearless leader’s unfamiliar naked upper lip needs to be addressed.

It has been the ongoing sentiment of this board that all major university decisions should be accompanied by constant and preemptive communication with relevant stakeholders.

Statistics reported in The Chronicle this week detailing the socioeconomic distribution of the undergraduate student body are not all that shocking. Self-reported data indicate that nearly a third of all students come from families that make more than $200,000 per year.
