I would suggest to Mr. Pierce that he be more specific when he says he wants me to get home safely at night (and presumably also during the day). That is, in order to prevent an overly-liberalized 'we're gonna take all your liberty' kind of argument, I would focus on saving the people who are going to be hit by the bad text/driver and not the texter themselves, as they should--arguably--have the right to do put their own selves at risk.
